Jo Mango - The Lightswitch (Live)

  • The Old Bridge Inn 23 Dalfaber Road Aviemore, Scotland, PH22 1PU United Kingdom (map)

Jo Mango returns with The Lightswitch, her first solo album in twelve years, and brings it to the Old Bridge Inn for an intimate live performance.

Scottish songwriter Jo Mango’s new record marks a significant return. The Lightswitch follows her 2012 release Murmuration and continues a body of work that has quietly shaped the contemporary Scottish scene, with collaborations spanning Teenage Fanclub, Karine Polwart and Admiral Fallow.

Recorded between Scotland and Margate with producer Adem, and engineered in Glasgow by Paul Savage at Chem 19 Studios, the album leans into a richer, more expansive sound. Electric guitar leads the arrangements for the first time, layered with harp, Steinway piano, vintage synths and strings from the Elysian Collective.

Drawing influence from artists like Adrianne Lenker, Aldous Harding and Angel Olsen, the record explores themes of memory, place and emotional return. Songs take their names from everyday domestic details, unfolding into something more introspective and layered over time.

At its core, The Lightswitch is a deeply personal work. It reflects on Jo’s relationship with music itself, moving through ideas of absence, obsession and rediscovery. There is a sense of movement throughout: tides shifting, light changing, spaces opening and closing.

Expect a stripped-back, atmospheric set that lets the detail of these songs come through. This is a rare chance to see one of Scotland’s most respected songwriters up close in a small room.
